Big Dog Walking Robot

Here at Big Robot we love big robots.  Here’s an article on the Big Dog pack robot being developed for the US army.  The most interesting thing I found (other than the way it looks when it’s trying to catch itself) is how people reacted in the comments area to seeing it kicked – most people seemed to feel it wasn’t a big stretch to thinking of the robot as a living creature.  Many felt sorry for it, as I did.

From Boing Boing Gadgets:

Here’s some more footage of Boston Dynamics’ Big Dog, the loping and headless military robot. It’s easily the scariest real-life one I’ve ever seen, and yet, when it recovers from being kicked in that first video, the illusion of intelligence is overwhelming. It’ll be a few years before it’s ready for the battlefield, according to this report.
